I’m really starting to like twitter. As of now I don’t have conversations with others. I use it to post links to cool things I run across, retweet (RT) things others post that I find interesting. In my opinion there is no right or wrong way to use twitter. I’m sure there’s people out there that would disagree, but I think you should use it for what suits you best. The cool part if there’s people out there that don’t use it the way you do. You don’t have to pay any attention to them. I question what makes people twitter experts? Really, what would define a twitter expert. I’ve seen people publish books on the subject that have oh, say 1,000 followers and call themselves experts. I’ve also seen Shaq he’s got 80,000 followers. Tweeting about nothing, which is cool. My advice would be to get on, “tweet”, and see if you like it. If you don’t. Log off.
Ahh the Super Bowl. Now there are at least 3 different types of people that I’ve found when it comes to this time of year. 1. This person loves football, might not be excited for teams playing, but frickin’ loves the game of football, that’s me. 2. This person lets it be known that the only reason that they are watching the game is because of the ads. Instantly becomes an ad critic. 3. Doesn’t like football. Will let you know that they aren’t watching the game and can’t figure out why people take the time to enjoy football. Most of the time they’ll also tell you they like random, obscure sports that 10 people on the planet have herd of. I couldn’t get into this years game for whatever reason. I love football, college or pro, doesn’t matter. I run a fantasy league and a pick ‘em league. Why I chose to run these is beyond me, I’ll revisit this another time. I don’t know why I couldn’t get into this years game, not that I didn’t watch, I just couldn’t get into it. I think it’s perhaps that the football season is long and I honestly haven’t got the attention span for it. This lack of attention span might just be the reason that one of my favorite commercials was the 1 second High Life commercial. Cracked me right up.
I gotta wonder if my Photoshop skils are lacking lately. I’ve been using Lightroom for a year or so now and I rarely open up Photoshop for actual photos. Mainly using it for things like creating web headers, text in videos, After Effects stuff, but not actually editing photos. I love Lightroom for the simple fact that i can view the whole collection of photos I’m working on and make small, unique adjustments on the photos more efficiently. Man I love it. It’s allowed me to shoot RAW 100% of the time. Which, I’m now learning is the way to go. Ligtroom kicks ass. I feel like I’m pimping Ligthroom the way I talk about the Furminator we got for the dogs a while ago. Pure awesomeness. The photo above is done with my mad photoshop skills.
My Grandpa took a lot of photos when my dad was growing up. Most of them were slides, which is really cool. My goal is to one day scan them all in, pretty lofty goal considering how many there are. Looking at some of the slides I can see why I like the mountains and taking pictures may come from. My Grandma says that he usually had a camera attached to his face while on vacation. I snapped something like 700+ pics on our trip to Cambodia a few summers ago, must be in the genes somewhere. Grandpa Bump died when I was 8 or 9, but I have to wonder what he’d think of digital cameras now? I wonder if he’d have a nice D3 or something? Maybe, probably, he’d still shoot slide film and show them on the screens to anyone who would look at them.
I thought of a cool way to start my blog (at least I think so). I’ll find the first picture I ever remember taking, I think I was 8, scan that in and write about it. Well the photo is in a book at my parents house in Minnesota. They can’t find it, it’s of a sunset and they’ve found all of the photos of sunsets taken in the mid 80′s, but not the one I took. Anyway, I remember taking the photo when I was home alone, we lived out in the country so leaving kids home was fine, I guess. Now I have to think what goes through an 8 year olds head when he decides to go get his parents camera and snap a photo of a sunset. I mean even now I see sunsets that I think, “i should get a shot of that” and don’t even bother. This was way before digital, so you had to wait for the roll to be finished up, brought to Fargo, developed and then your parents asking each other who took that. There wasn’t much for instant gratification then. One day I’ll find it and post it. For now here’s a sunrise pic that I took in Cambodia in the summer of 2007, a few weeks after I got my first DSLR.
